Self Reliance
Self-reliance programs provide youth with self-confidence and develop responsibility. These programs teach youth how to handle threats to their safety and security, take care of themselves in different situations, and provide service to their communities. Traditionally the self-reliance programs partner Camp Fire employees or volunteers with local schools.
All self-reliance programs are led by trained instructors using national curricula, and include:
- I'm Safe and Sure targets kindergartners and 1st grade students. This program teaches self-help skills, home and personal safety, as well as family responsibility.
- Count on Me Kids targets kindergartners through 2nd grade students. This program focuses on drug and alcohol prevention.
- I Can Do It targets 2nd and 3rd grade students. This program teaches youth how to choose and eat nutritious food, handle unsafe conditions away from home, as well as fire, weather and bicycle safety.
- I'm Peer-Proof targets 4th through 6th grade students. Youth learn how to resist negative peer pressure and how to maintain positive friendships.
- I'm Taking Care targets 5th and 6th grade students. Youth are trained in babysitting skills including basic child care, safety measures, safe play with children, and job ethics.
