Kids Need Camp, We Need YOU! #CampDaKaNi60for60
2016 marks the 60th anniversary for Camp DaKaNi making an impact in the lives of Oklahoma community youth. Join us for a camp-wide effort to encourage all Camp Fire Heart of Oklahoma friends and family - alumni, parents, and staff alike - to rally as a community in support of all of our programs.
Camp Fire's out-of-school programs are research based and delivered where youth and families are. Our programs focus on outdoor education and the environment, teen service, and youth leadership. Your donation could help provide funding for camp scholarships to Camp DaKaNi, facility upgrades or help reach 400 kids in our growing Afterschool Program.
This campaign will kick off July 1st, 2016 and run through August 29th, 2016. During this 60-day campaign, we will be encouraging friends of Camp DaKaNi to donate $60 to our cause, either through a one-time donation or as a monthly contribution ($5 a month) throughout the year. In an effort to both celebrate what our camp means to this community and to raise awareness we are going to be posting 60 for 60 videos. These 60-second long videos, new each day of the campaign will highlight the experience of a Camp DaKaNi participant, parent or staff person explaining why they love our camp.
We would love for you to participate in a video for us and/or share the videos on your own social media with the hashtag #CampDaKaNi60for60. By using our hashtag, you will be entered to win a free week to our school-break camp, “G.O.T.C.H.A” this Fall or next Spring.
If you are interested in starring in your own video, please contact Matt Burkholder at firstname.lastname@example.org or at (405)254-2065.
Thank you for your continued support. By banding together our efforts, we will be able to help support more of Oklahoma's youth discover their spark.
Camp Fire Heart of Oklahoma is a youth development organization, established as a 501 (c) (3) in 1929. We have been at the same location in Oklahoma City since 1956. We are unique in that we provide an outdoor, in the country type of experience, right in the heart of the city. Our beautiful 33 acre campground is the only facility of its kind in the metro area. We provide a variety of outdoor educational programs for boys and girls, ages 5-18. These programs encourage personal exploration by incorporating a researched based approach to youth development that ensures participants gain the skills necessary to thrive throughout their lives.
We are very aware of the changes that are required in order to meet the developmental and educational needs for the youth of our community. Every Camp Fire program employs the Thrive Theory of Change methodology, helping youth find their sparks and discover who they are. This methodology is carried out by:
- identifying sparks, passions, skills
- developing / adopting a growth mindset
- reflecting on strengths and challenges
- shifting gears when faced with obstacles
This process then changes how youth think of themselves so that they can reach their full potential. Our trained staff then nurture that discovery giving youth the tools they need to become leaders in their community, school, and their peer group. The participants are taught life lessons such as becoming and being a leader, working as a team-member, having confidence in their abilities, community service and respect for differences and the environment.
To deliver our promise, we believe -
- in the worth of all kids and young people
- that all youth can thrive
- that youth need 3 champions to thrive: Their family, their school, and their community (which includes Camp Fire)
- in a diverse and inclusive community and society - one that embraces its differences
- that youth must have a voice in matters which directly affects them.
